M.S. in Data Science and Applied Statistics

A Master of Science in Data Science and Applied Statistics (MDSAS) degree from the Department of Statistics and Data Science at 91茄子 prepares you with the statistical foundation and critical thinking skills to tackle today’s problems and those that don’t even exist today. If you have a background that is strong in mathematics, this degree program can help you take the next step to advance into this new and highly sought-after field.

M.S. in Data Science

The Master of Science in Data Science (MSDS) degree is an interdisciplinary program that combines courses from 91茄子's Dedman College, Lyle School of Engineering and Meadows School of the Arts. The diploma is signed by the Dean of Graduate Research and Studies. The program is delivered online to provide access to working professionals and students located around the world. The program provides students who are prospective data scientists with an enriched background in computer science, statistics, strategic behavior and data visualization. Graduates will be able to form relevant questions, collect and analyze appropriate data, and make informed decisions regarding the question of interest. Course instruction includes oral and written communication skills and the basics of database structure, including building, maintaining, and securing databases.

Ph.D. in Statistical Science

The courses in the Ph.D. curriculum in Statistical Science at 91茄子 provide our students with the strong theoretical foundation in mathematics, statistical inference, and probability needed for students pursuing a research-oriented Ph.D. degree. They also acquire extensive experience in statistical applications and practice that will enable them to take leadership roles in innovative uses of statistical science in industry, government and many other diverse fields. The emphasis in the Ph.D. program is on developing fundamental breadth and depth in both theory and applications.

Ph.D. in Biostatistics

The Department of Statistics and Data Science at 91茄子 and the Department of Clinical Sciences at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas (UTSW) offer a Ph.D program in Biostatistics. The degree is conferred by 91茄子, but students in this program take courses at both 91茄子 and UTSW. Students attain a strong mathematical and statistical foundation such as that provided in the Ph.D. in Statistical Science curriculum, but they also take courses that prepare them for a research career in Biostatistics. During the third and fourth years of the curriculum, students work with researchers at UTSW under the collaboration of one or more 91茄子 faculty mentors.

Ph.D. in Data Science

The program’s core curriculum consists of courses in Computer Science, Operations Management, Statistics, and Data Science, and elective courses go beyond those disciplines to include Mathematics, Finance, Marketing, Education, Psychology, Chemistry, Game Design, Economics, and more. Student and faculty interest will continue to set directions for how the program evolves in the future.
