Maureen A. Mixtacki, CPA, CGMA
Maureen Mixtacki is a Certified Public Accountant and a Chartered Global Management Accountant, with 18 years of experience as Chief Financial Officer of The Dallas Opera. There she was primary advisor to the General Director and Board of Directors for all financial, technology, human resources and administrative matters of three separate but related nonprofit arts companies: The Dallas Opera, the Karayanis Center and The Dallas Opera Foundation. Her extensive experience in budgeting and financial management for arts organizations and nonprofits, including financial reporting and analysis, cash and investment management, audit, tax, strategic planning, and internal control development and implementation, provides a strong framework for teaching with relevant examples from actual arts organizations.
In addition to her teaching, Mixtacki served as the CFO and HR Director for the nonprofit Unlocking DOORS, Inc., and now serves on the Advisory Council. She continues to perform consulting work for arts organizations and other nonprofits. She is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Dallas CPA Society. A strong proponent of lifelong continuing education, Mixtacki served on the TSCPA Annual Nonprofit Organizations Conference Committee (formerly as Chair), as well as the Dallas CPA Society Annual CPE Conference Committee. She also serves as Chair of the Steering Committee for monthly nonprofit education programs of the TSCPA Dallas Chapter nonprofit MIGI Group. Mixtacki was awarded the
Chairman’s Citation for Outstanding Service to the TSCPA CPE Foundation and continues to serve as a speaker for various conferences and organizations, including the Business Council for the Arts and the Leadership Arts Institute.
Mixtacki earned her B.B.A. cum laude in Accounting at the University of Notre Dame, in the Mendoza College of Business, where she also received the Beta Alpha Psi National Literary Scholar award. Additional prior professional experience includes work as a Senior Auditor at Arthur Andersen & Co. public accounting firm, and as a Financial Manager, Director of Litigation Support, and Internal Audit Manager at Trammell Crow Company.
